Transforming children's
lives through
education and healthcare

OUR MISSION

To ensure every child in the Las Vegas Valley has access to the healthcare and education they need to grow, succeed, and thrive.

Who We Are

Our team represents three generations of the Bower Family – grandparents, aunts, uncles and grandchildren included – as well as friends of the family.

We are leveraging our personal and professional experiences and deep roots in Southern Nevada to build a better community.  We work together to identify and support high-impact organizations in our community.

What We Do

We are a trusted partner in the generosity process. When you choose to sponsor an event, register for a golf tournament, or donate to the Bower Fund, your contribution plays a crucial role in transforming the lives of local children.

Your dollars are specifically directed towards addressing educational and healthcare needs within our community, reflecting the core of our mission. Then, our team meticulously researches and assesses various charities that are actively involved in creating a tangible impact. Together, we strive to bridge the gaps faced by children affected by poverty and inequity, fostering a brighter future for the younger generation.

Our History

Our Founder, Dr. Joel Bower, and his wife, Carol Bower, moved from Pennsylvania to Henderson, Nevada in 1971. Dr. Bower practiced medicine for over 35 years in both private practice and within the Dignity Health hospital system.

During his career as an obstetrician, Dr. Bower delivered over 5,000 children and was an integral member of Henderson’s medical community. In 2020, Dr. Bower founded The Bower Fund to provide a means for children, and their families, to access the healthcare and educational resources they need to thrive.

Nevada Health Centers Bower School-Based Health Center at Basic Academy offered primary care and preventive health services to children of the Clark County School District.

The Dr. Joel and Carol Bower School-Based Health Center (SBHC) was founded in 2004 as a partnership between Nevada State College School of Nursing and Basic Academy for International Studies in Henderson, NV, to address significant unmet health needs of Henderson children. The center provided services such as immunizations, emergency care, chronic disease management, sports physicals and health education.

The partnership between Nevada State College and the SBHC lasted until 2017 when Nevada Health Centers assumed operations of the SBHC replacing Nevada State College School of Nursing. The center was then renamed Nevada Health Centers Bower School-Based Health Center at Basic Academy. The SBHC provided healthcare to more than 10,000 low-income and underserved children in our community who may have otherwise gone untreated.

From its beginnings as a partnership between Nevada State College and Basic Academy until its closure in 2024 the SBHC truly made a lasting impact - helping thousands of children who might have otherwise gone untreated. In 2024, The Bower Fund established their own 501(c)3 non-profit organization to continue their dedication to keeping healthcare accessible for underseved children and to ensure 100% of the donations go directly to The Bower Fund.
